Tutu Du Monde

German-born Andrea Rembeck has enjoyed a distinguished career in the Australian fashion industry designing for leading Australian labels such as Collette Dinnigan and Fleur Wood and
launching her own labels Andrea Rembeck and diffusion line She’s Beck. This formidable fashion force has now launched her new label for children, Tutu Du Monde, on her quest to create the
perfect tutu.
When asked by her young daughter for her own tutu, Rembeck searched, and could only find
hot pink, mass-produced polyester pieces. She says, ‘for me, a greener and more sustainable
future is an imperative – rather than a political – position. I wanted to create a tutu that left a light footprint.’ Now she has a range of tutus that are wearable and practical, insouciant and
dreamy…
‘My tutus have a hand-made, hand dyed, one-off, old-world feel without the frail nature of a vintage garment. Colours are dusty pastels, with details of sequins, beads and feathers, applied
by hand to cotton and tulle. My tutus are produced in small runs, in line with their organic look.
They are made to last, and in fact, get better with wear. Slight fading and fraying edges adds to their charm over time.’
At last there is a line of tutus that call to mind a kinder world, a gentle place where little children can imagine being a dainty ballerina, a helpful fairy and a benevolent princess.
